What is the riwaya of Qaloun 'an Nafi'?

Qaloun is the nickname of 'Isa ibn Mina al-Madani, a student of Nafi' al-Madani — the same teacher as Warsh. Both riwayat therefore go back to the same reader of Madinah through two different students. Qaloun is today the reference reading in Tunisia and across much of Libya.

What is the difference between Qaloun and Warsh?

Both riwayat come from the same teacher, Nafi' al-Madani, which is why they resemble each other more than either resembles Hafs. They nonetheless differ in certain rules of prolongation and pronunciation, and in points of script and vowelling. A Qaloun mushaf and a Warsh mushaf are therefore not interchangeable.

Why are Qaloun Qurans harder to find?

Because print runs in Qaloun are far smaller than in Hafs, and these editions circulate little outside Tunisia and Libya. The quantities shown here are therefore small and reflect stock actually on the shelf, never a supplier lead time. If a model is sold out, write to us and we will tell you honestly whether a restock is planned.

Do your Qaloun Qurans include a translation?

No. Every mushaf in this section is Arabic text only, with no translation or transliteration. Each listing states the riwaya, the lines per page, the size in centimetres, the paper, the binding and the publisher, and we check the riwaya on the physical copy before dispatch.
