Is a single volume enough to know the sira?

For the thread, yes. To cite a fact with its source, no: abridgements drop the chains of transmission, the detail of the secondary expeditions and the discussion of conflicting reports. It is a good first book, to be completed later by a modern study or by the classical sources.

How many pages does "one volume" mean?

Anywhere from 90 pages to 600, which is why we state the real page count on each product page rather than the volume count alone. A very short abridgement is made for reading in a circle or with children, a thick volume for an adult read over one or two weeks.

Are there editions for children?

Yes, vowelled and often illustrated, with deliberately limited vocabulary. On those editions full vowelling is not negotiable and the binding matters, since the book passes through several hands. Tell us the child's age: the adult and children's editions have nothing in common on this shelf.
