Partial tafsir

The tafsirs of a portion: one sura, one juz', a group of verses. Al-Fatiha, Al-Baqara, Yusuf, Al-Kahf, the juz' Amma and the short suras take up most of the shelf. A slim volume devoted to one precise text, often drawn from a course series. This is the format to take when working on one sura in particular.

Is a tafsir of a single sura enough?

On that sura it goes further than any complete tafsir, because the author does not have to save space. But it answers nothing outside its passage. The two formats add up rather than replace one another: a dedicated volume on the sura you are working on, a single-volume tafsir for the rest.

Which suras are most often available?

Al-Fatiha, Al-Baqara, the juz' Amma and the short suras, then the narrative suras such as Yusuf, Al-Kahf and Maryam. Collections of thematic verses also exist, for instance the ayat al-ahkam. Tell us the sura you are working on and we will say what exists on it in stock.

Are these volumes transcribed lessons?

Many are, and it shows in the reading: the style is oral, with repetitions and digressions. Some readers gain in clarity from it, others find the argument rambling. We state the origin of the text on the product page when it is a transcription, so the choice is made knowingly.
