Arabic Language Matns

Arabic language matns (متون اللغة العربية): the core texts memorised before being studied, in bare vowelled editions, pocket size or as bound collections. Ajurrumiyya, Ibn Malik's Alfiyya, Lamiyyat al-af'al, Sullam al-munawraq, and the majami' that gather several matns in one volume. Vowelled text, stable pagination, binding built for daily use. Every listing states exactly what a collection contains.

Why buy a matn without a commentary?

For memorisation. A pocket copy, vowelled, with no commentary around it, sits in the hand during revision and reads without distraction. The commentary is consulted on a separate copy, on the desk. Most students own both.

What does a majmu' al-mutun contain?

That depends entirely on the publisher: some collections gather ten matns, others thirty, and two collections under the same title do not always hold the same list. That is the thing to check before buying, and we set out the exact contents on every listing.

Should I keep the same edition throughout memorisation?

Yes, and it matters. Memory leans on where the verse sits on the page, exactly as with the mushaf. Changing edition midway costs you that landmark and several weeks with it. If you buy a replacement, take the same model rather than a nicer one.
