Pocket guide or detailed treatise?

Both if you are travelling: a treatise to read beforehand to understand the logic of the stages, a pocket guide to carry for the doing on site. On this shelf, format and weight genuinely matter, because the book is consulted standing in a crowd.

Are the works on common mistakes worth it?

Yes, and they are often the most useful purchase here. They deal precisely with the points where pilgrims go wrong, which a linear account of the stages does not bring out. They are read alongside a guide, not instead of one.

Are the three forms of pilgrimage explained?

Yes: ifrad, qiran and tamattu', with what each implies in terms of ihram, sacrifice and the order of the rites. It is the first decision to make on departure, and every guide here treats it at the outset.

Are the supplications vowelled?

On serious guides, yes, and it is worth checking: on site you will read them aloud in difficult conditions, and an unvowelled text becomes unusable. We state the vowelling on the product page.

Is the pilgrimage of women treated separately?

It has its own chapter in most guides: mahram, dress, the case of menstruation during the rites, the farewell tawaf. The Women in Islam shelf also gathers the collections treating these questions across the whole of worship.
