What distinguishes an Egyptian edition from a Lebanese one?

Broadly: Egypt produces many affordable print runs in manageable formats, with good coverage of the Shafi'i, Hanafi and Maliki heritage. Lebanon favours large bound sets with a developed critical apparatus. It is not a matter of quality but of use: everyday reading and study on one side, a reference library on the other.

Are the books vocalised?

It depends on the title. Many Egyptian editions are partially vocalised: proper names, rare words and quoted passages are, the rest is not. Matns meant for memorisation are usually fully vocalised. Each product page states this; if the information is missing, ask us before ordering.

Why do two houses carry the name Dar Ibn Hazm?

Because they are two separate houses, one in Lebanon and one in Egypt, with no subsidiary relationship. Their catalogues and their production differ. We gave them two separate pages to avoid confusion when ordering.

How can I tell whether an edition is complete or abridged?

Look at the number of volumes and pages given on the page, and at the title itself: mukhtasar, talkhis or "abridged" signal a reduced version. A commentary in one volume where the original runs to eight is necessarily an abridgement — and that is sometimes exactly what you need to start.

Do economy print runs last?

A perfect-bound paperback handles reading well but repeated flat opening badly. For a book you will annotate and consult daily for years, choose a sewn binding even at a higher price. For a first reading, or a title you want to discover, the Egyptian paperback does the job well.

Where do you ship from and what are the lead times?

Every book in this section ships from France; nothing transits through Egypt once you order. The lead times shown at checkout are therefore the real ones. Restocking from Egypt, however, happens in batches: if a title is unavailable, write to us and we will give you an honest date rather than an optimistic estimate.
