Which book should I start with?

With Mukhtasar Minhaj al-qasidin or Al-Jawab al-kafi: one volume each, approachable language, and an argument you can follow. Madarij al-salikin comes next, worked chapter by chapter over a year.

Can Madarij al-salikin be read alone?

It is dense, in three volumes, and is a commentary on al-Harawi's Manazil al-sa'irin, so a base text sits behind it. An abridgement exists and makes a good intermediate step before the original.

How does this differ from the Reminders section?

Tazkiya is sustained, systematic work on the heart, with stages and a vocabulary of its own. Reminders are brief exhortations read in fragments. The two complement each other but are not used the same way.

Which edition of Madarij al-salikin?

Check the volume count and the editor: the title exists complete, abridged, and as compressed reprints that are often unreadable. On a text this dense, typesetting matters as much as content.
